2. Which documents govern your use of this site

This Legal Notice works alongside our Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, Refund Policy, and Shipping Policy, each linked in the footer of this site. Where a signed commission agreement or written quote exists between you and CathcartCrafted, that document controls the specific project it describes, and these site policies fill in anything it does not address.

3. Handmade work, natural materials, and what that means

Everything we build is made by hand from solid wood and other natural materials. Wood is not a manufactured, uniform substance, and we do not treat it as one. Please understand the following as characteristics of the work, not as defects:

• Grain, color, and figure vary. No two boards are identical. Your piece will not exactly match a photograph, a showroom sample, an earlier piece, or a digital rendering. Species color also shifts over time with light exposure — cherry darkens, walnut lightens.
• Wood moves. Solid wood expands and contracts with seasonal changes in humidity. Small gaps, seasonal movement in panels and breadboard ends, and hairline checking at end grain are normal behavior in a solid wood piece and are not covered as defects. We design for movement; we cannot eliminate it.
• Live edge, reclaimed, and character-grade material includes knots, voids, bark inclusions, insect tracks, nail holes, mineral streaking, and filled checks. That is why you chose it.
• Finishes. Hand-applied finishes show minor variation in sheen and texture. Finish samples approximate the final result; the same finish reads differently on different boards.
• Screen color. Colors shown on your monitor or phone are approximations and will not precisely match physical material. Order physical samples before committing to a species or finish on a large project.

4. Custom and commissioned work

Quotes are valid for 30 days unless stated otherwise. Design drawings, shop drawings, renderings, and specifications we produce remain our intellectual property unless your written agreement assigns them to you.

Once you approve a design and we begin cutting material, changes to dimensions, species, joinery, or finish may not be possible, and where they are possible they will be quoted as a change order and may extend your lead time. Deposits on commissioned work are non-refundable once material has been purchased or milling has begun, because that material was bought for your piece and cannot be returned.

You are responsible for the accuracy of dimensions, site measurements, logos, artwork, text, and other specifications you provide to us. We build to the information you approve.

5. Customer-supplied artwork and logos

If you supply a logo, artwork, text, or other material for inlay, engraving, or carving, you represent that you own it or have permission to use it, and you agree to indemnify us against any claim that our use of it in your commission infringes someone's rights. We may decline any artwork at our discretion.

6. Intellectual property

All content on this site — photographs of our work, text, designs, drawings, video, and the CathcartCrafted name and logo — is owned by Ecommerce Integration LLC or used with permission, and is protected by U.S. copyright and trademark law. You may not reproduce, distribute, or use it commercially without our prior written permission. Photographs of pieces we built are our work product; we retain the right to photograph and publish work we build, including commissioned pieces, unless your agreement says otherwise in writing.

Third-party names, brands, and trademarks appearing on this site belong to their respective owners and are used for identification only.

7. Pricing, availability, and errors

Prices and availability shown on this site are subject to change without notice. Material markets move, and a slab price quoted in March is not a slab price in September.

Despite our efforts, this site may contain typographical errors, inaccuracies, or omissions in pricing, descriptions, dimensions, availability, or lead times. We reserve the right to correct any error and to cancel or refuse any order placed at an incorrect price, even after the order is confirmed. If we cancel such an order, we will notify you and refund any amount charged in full.

8. Not professional advice

Content on this site — including anything we publish about wood species, construction methods, finishing, care, structural loading, or installation — is general information offered in good faith, not professional design, architectural, engineering, or contracting advice. Do not rely on it for structural, code, permitting, or safety decisions. Consult a licensed professional for your specific situation.

9. Third-party links and services

This site links to third-party websites and uses third-party services, including Shopify for hosting and payment processing and scheduling tools for consultation booking. We do not control those sites and services and are not responsible for their content, availability, practices, or terms. A link is not an endorsement.

10. Warranty and limitation of liability

We stand behind our craftsmanship. Any express warranty we offer on a piece will be stated in your written agreement or invoice. Except for such express warranty, and to the fullest extent permitted by law, this site and its content are provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Ecommerce Integration LLC, its members, employees, and contractors are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages arising from your use of this site or from any product purchased through it. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid for the product or service in question.

Nothing in this notice limits any right you have under applicable consumer protection law that cannot lawfully be waived.

11. Care and use

Furniture we build is intended for normal residential or commercial use as described in your quote. Damage from misuse, abuse, standing water, direct sustained heat, prolonged direct sunlight, improper cleaning products, extreme or uncontrolled humidity, unauthorized modification, or improper moving is not covered by any warranty. We provide care instructions with every piece; following them is what keeps a piece serviceable for decades.

12. Accessibility

We want this site to be usable by everyone. If you encounter a barrier to accessing any part of it, email keith@cathcartcrafted.com and tell us what happened and what you were trying to do. We will work with you to get you the information or complete the transaction another way, and we will fix the barrier where we can.

13. Governing law

This Legal Notice and your use of this site are governed by the laws of the State of North Carolina, without regard to its conflict of law rules. You agree that the state and federal courts located in Wake County, North Carolina have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from this site, except where applicable law gives you the right to bring a claim in your own jurisdiction.

14. Changes to this notice

We may update this Legal Notice at any time. The current version is always posted at cathcartcrafted.com/policies, with the effective date at the top. Continued use of the site after we post a change means you accept it.
